• Artisan Crafts 3-5 *New Course

  This course is designed for students in grades 3 through 5 looking to explore different art forms than are traditionally offered during the school year. Focus will be on the process of learning art making skills that can be applied to various types of creation. Hands on topics will include making soap & bath bombs, cross stitch and toy design.

  In this hands-on course, students will explore different types of crafts and art techniques. Topics covered will include wood burning, mosaics, soap making and cross stitch.

• Ceramics and Sculpture 3-5

  This course is designed to give the student experience making art through a variety of different materials, although the primary focus will be ceramic hand-building.  Each grade level will be challenged with sequentially harder objectives so that all students are appropriately working to their own potential.  Students will create unique sculptures of animals, masks, and vessels employing basic coil, slab & pinch pot techniques.  All pieces will be kiln-fired and glazed or painted.  The class will end with small wood assemblage sculptures and polymer clay creations.  The projects are designed so that the same student can repeat the course while learning new techniques in a more challenging way each progressive year.   This course is designed to give the new or experienced artists exposure to making art three-dimensionally.  Each week there will be a featured project that teaches students the basics of each medium and cumulates with a finished product.  Each grade level will be challenged with sequentially harder objectives and techniques so that all students are appropriately working to their own potential.  Students will create plaster figure sculptures, unique ceramic vessels, and relief creations employing various hand-building techniques.    All pieces will be kiln-fired and glazed.  Polymer clay creations will round out the experience.  The projects are designed so that the same student can repeat the course while learning new techniques in a more challenging way each progressive year.   Over the course of this class, students will rotate through a series of units that allow them to explore new and exciting digital techniques. Through the use of touch screens, art apps and a stylus, students will relearn what it means to draw and paint in the modern era, while incorporating traditional methods such as brushstrokes, color blending and composition. Students who have already taken this course are encouraged to re enroll, as projects differ and evolve with emerging technology. Students will be utilizing IPads for this course. This is a three-week course.

  Want to take better photos? Digital Photography 1 takes students through a three-week program that teaches both the mechanics and artistry of taking great pictures. Working with both DSLR and cell phone cameras, students will learn how to adjust their camera settings to get desired results, how to capture our attention and tell a story with their composition, and how to manipulate their photos in editing to get a stunning final image. Students will complete this class with a portfolio of work, a fundamental understanding of photography, and the ability to take excellent photos. This is a 3-week course.

  This course is designed to give the student experience working in drawing, collage and painting.  Each week there will be a featured project that teaches students the basics of each medium and cumulates with a finished product.  Each grade level will be challenged with sequentially harder objectives so that all students are appropriately working to their own potential.  Examples of projects include drawing from life, an abstracted mixed media collage and landscape painting.  The projects are designed so that the same student can repeat the course while learning new techniques in a more challenging way each progressive year.   This course is designed to give the new or experiment artists exposure to drawing, watercolors and acrylics.  Each week there will be a featured project that teaches students the basics of each medium and cumulates with a finished product.  Each grade level will be challenged with sequentially harder objectives and techniques so that all students are appropriately working to their own potential.  Examples will range from drawing with colored pencils, watercolor landscapes and an acrylic self portrait piece.  The projects are designed so that the same student can repeat the course while learning new techniques in a more challenging way each progressive year.   This course is designed to teach students the ins-and-outs of filmmaking and visual storytelling. Students will learn how to master the artistic and technical aspects of the craft, working with a variety of equipment and professional editing software. Students will create a series of videos, both independently and collaboratively, with each new project developing skills in storytelling, camerawork, and editing. At the end of the course, students will have an extensive body of work to share with the world and all the skills needed to make their mark as filmmakers! This is a 3-week class.

• Stop Motion Movie Making 3-5

  Times:

  1:00-2:00 pm, 2:00-3:00 pm.
  
  

  Students will utilize traditional stop-motion techniques while incorporating new digital applications. We’ll start by going over the basic principles of stop-motion, what we’ll need to set up a stop motion environment as well as operating a camera. From here, students will learn how to animate a sequence, export it and add sound. No experience is required and all tools necessary for creating an animation will be provided for the students!  This is a 3-week class.
