Math Courses For Grades 6-12

Advanced Credit Courses

Advanced credit courses are 6 week courses that meet four hours daily for a total of 120 hours. These courses are equivalent in rigor and content to full-year programs at Newark Academy. Students can take advanced credit courses for enrichment, or with their school's approval, transfer the course for credit at their respective schools. Students taking advanced credit courses are allowed two absences and are responsible for missed work. Courses include:

  • Algebra 1 Advanced Credit

    Session Dates: June 23 – August 1
    Times: 8:05 am-12:30 pm
    Tuition: $2,200 
     
    This six-week course will cover algebra in one and two variables through the solution of quadratic equations by factoring, completing the square, and by formula. This course will stress the structure and logical development of mathematics. Students enrolling in this course should have completed Pre-Algebra.   • Geometry Advanced Credit

    Session Dates: June 23 – August 1
    Times: 8:05 am-12:30 pm
    Tuition:$2,200
     
    This six-week course will cover plane geometry with elements of analytic and solid geometry, nature of proof, development of theorems from definitions and axioms, constructions, original exercises and numerical examples, analytic geometry of the straight line, and the circle.   • Algebra 2 Advanced Credit

    Session Dates: June 23 – August 1
    Times: 8:05 am-12:30 pm
    Tuition:$2,200
     
    This six-week course will cover intermediate algebra with elements of analytic geometry and trigonometry, quadratic and higher degree equations, graphing inequalities, binomial theorem, series and sequences, arithmetic and geometric progressions, and mathematical induction. Students will be required to have a graphing calculator. Only advance credit students will cover trigonometry. Students enrolling in this course should have completed Algebra 1.   • Pre-Calculus Advanced Credit

    Session Dates: June 23 – August 1
    Times: 8:05 am-12:30 pm
    Tuition:$2,200
     
    This six-week course will review and study intermediate algebra, analytic geometry, function and inverse function, log and exponential functions, trigonometry, complex numbers, limits, continuity, and derivatives of polynomials. Students will be required to have a graphing calculator. Students enrolling in this course should have completed Algebra 2 with Trigonometry.   • Calculus Advanced Credit

    Session Dates: June 23 – August 1
    Times: 8:05 am-12:30 pm
    Tuition:$2,200
     
    This six-week course will follow the AB curriculum. Topics will include analytic geometry, along with both differential and integral calculus. The course will spend a fair amount of time on the applications of the calculus. Students will be required to have a graphing calculator. Students enrolling in this course should have completed PreCalculus.

Preview Courses

Preview courses are 6 week courses that meet for two hours daily for a total of 60 hours. These courses are for students who want substantial exposure to courses they will take in the fall. Students in preview courses will cover approximately half of the entire course material over a six-week period. Courses include:

  • Fundamentals of Mathematics Preview

    Session Dates: June 24 – August 2
    Times: 10:25 am - 12:30 pm
    Tuition: $1,100
     
    This six-week course will cover the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions, decimals, and percents. The course also usually includes intuitive geometry and an introduction to Algebra I.

  • Pre-Algebra Preview

    Session Dates: June 24 – August 2
    Times: 8:05-10:10 am; 10:25 am-12:30 pm
    Tuition: $1,100
     
    This six-week course will provide students with an opportunity to strengthen their basic mathematical skills, while working on an introduction to algebra. Students will be introduced to the algebra concepts of integers, equations, inequalities, and exponents; there is also a unit on informal geometry. Students enrolling in this course should have completed Fundamentals of Math.

Math Topics Courses

Math Topics courses are 3 week courses that meet for two hours daily for a total of 30 hours. These courses offer instruction in select topics in each branch of mathematics. These courses can be taken on their own or to supplement enrollment in another math class. Courses include:
